LEXIA AWARD

LA JOYA, Texas – La Joya ISD has been named a Quarter 1 winner in the inaugural Lexia Literacy Luminaries Award program, a national recognition initiative launched by Lexia, a Cambium Learning Group brand. This prestigious award honors schools and districts that demonstrate exceptional commitment to student literacy through consistent, high-quality use of Lexia’s evidence-based programs.

La Joya ISD was selected for its outstanding implementation of Lexia Core5 Reading, Lexia PowerUp Literacy, and Lexia English Language Development across the district. These programs have been integrated with fidelity to accelerate literacy growth and support English language development for the district’s diverse student population, including its Emergent Bilingual students.

“At La Joya ISD, literacy is the foundation of everything we do. Partnering with Lexia has helped us ensure that every student has the opportunity to succeed,” said Dr. Marcey Sorensen, Superintendent of La Joya ISD. “This recognition reflects the dedication of our educators, the determination of our students, and the collective effort to advance equity and opportunity through literacy.”

Lexia’s suite of programs has a proven track record of success. Core5, designed for PreK–5 learners, is over 2.5 times more effective than other elementary reading programs. PowerUp, geared toward students in grades 6–12, helps those at risk of falling behind to achieve multiple years of reading growth in a single academic year. Lexia English provides a culturally responsive platform to build speaking, listening, and grammar skills for Emergent Bilingual students in a safe, supportive environment.

“We are thrilled to recognize La Joya ISD as a Lexia Literacy Luminaries Award winner,” said Nick Gaehde, President of Lexia. “Their leadership and commitment to implementing our literacy programs with fidelity are making a measurable difference in student achievement.”

Award winners are chosen based on data from Lexia’s internal dashboard, evaluating student progress and program engagement. As a Q1 winner, La Joya ISD will be eligible for national year-end recognition in early 2026. The district receives a certificate and digital badge to celebrate and showcase this achievement across platforms.
